Tortoise in a
Nutshell is an Edinburgh based theatre
company producing
performances and events to inspire young people. We pride
ourselves on
devising original performances full of fun, sensory stimulation
and
play, aimed at igniting the imagination.
Tortoise in a Nutshell was formed in 2007 by four Drama
and
Theatre Arts students at Queen Margaret University, but has
since grown
into a collective containing performers, designers, musicians
and
dramaturgs. The group has grown around a shared passion for
innovative
and engaging children's theatre, and have since set about
developing a
vibrant style of performance based upon strong roots in
community and
contemporary performance practice.
Previous work by the company includes Ra-Boh!: a cross
generational piece developed with the Living Memory Association
(L.M.A)
which was staged in 2009; and Twine which premiered at
the
Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2009 and will be touring to venues
across
Scotland as part of this year’s Puppet Animation Festival. For
further
information please see our ‘Upcoming’ page.
2010 promises to be an exciting year for the company, with a new
production The Last Miner to be staged at this year’s
Edinburgh Fringe Festival with support from the Ideas Fund, a
funding
scheme launched by the London based body Ideas Tap. The Ideas
Fund aims
to support young practitioners in taking their work to the
Edinburgh
Fringe. Tortoise In A Nutshell was one of only two winners of
the fund
from over 180 applicants. We are immensely proud to be
associated with
Ideas Tap and watch this space for regular updates on the
progress of The
Last
Miner, including details of a UK wide tour throughout the
autumn.
