Your Voice Recovery Group Greenock Project
In September 2024, we partnered with Your Voice Recovery Hub and Creative Recovery Inverclyde to offer workshops for local community members in Greenock who were actively in recovery. The goal was to create a mini performance in response to our show, Concerned Others. This mini performance was showcased at The Wyllieum in Greenock as part of the Creative Recovery Celebration Day, organized by Elina Bry.
The group decided to reflect on their experience of the loss of personal identity when entering services for addiction e.g. clinics, and recovery centres.
One participant explained “I left prison recently and now I am going in and out of hospitals or clinics to get help which is good but sometimes you spend more time being called your last name. Feels like I am just an addict as thats all my social life having to jump around all these appointments where all we do is talk about it but there is more to me than that, you know”
The show was devised and performed by the local community and used visual puppetry, technology and spoken word to offer new ways of describing themselves as separate from recovery.
