CULTIVATE: Producer Placement
SUPERFAN, Tortoise in a Nutshell and Shotput are joining forces to offer a 6-month paid placement for an early career producer. This paid placement aims to address the shortage of theatre producers in Scotland, particularly for dance, circus and visual theatre forms. It will have a focus on learning and training, including learning via doing by working alongside and absorbing knowledge from the producers of the three host companies.
The 6-month timeline has been selected based on when our three companies will have activity which would be interesting and beneficial for the placement to join, during which they will learn across different producing activities. From research and development, through to touring and international work, as well as the quieter moments in between activity delivery and long term planning, this opportunity will offer an insight into the varied responsibilities of a producer, and an opportunity to participate in the work necessary to bring a project to life
This placement has been supported by Creative Scotland’s Multi Year Funding programme and Federation of Scottish Theatre.
Contract: 6-month paid placement running from October 2026 - March 2027. This will be 60 days over a 6-month period equating to approximately 2.5 days per week with flexibility to attend creation, rehearsals and touring work as required. Essential dates for availability will be discussed with the successful candidate.
Pay: £175 per day x 60 = £10,500 + holiday pay
Travel expenses support to work in office spaces in Glasgow and Edinburgh
A 1 year individual membership to the Federation of Scottish Theatre (FST) in kind
Access to relevant FST events and training opportunities in kind, where appropriate and available
Networking opportunities at sector events the host producers are attending
Free tickets to the host companies’ shows during the placement period
Location: Scotland, available to work remotely and commute to Edinburgh and Glasgow
Application deadline: 10am, 14th August
Interview date: 24th & 25th August
Start date: 28th September

How Can We Help?
We love supporting in any way we can. Some of the ways we can help include:
Offering in-kind equipment and prop hire. We are currently in the process of creating a borrow library which will show everything we have in our store which we are happy to loan out.
Desk space and making space. We are based at Heart of Newhaven in Edinburgh and are happy to share our space with other creatives when we can.
Mentoring and Advice. We love meeting new creatives at any stage of their career. We are happy to meet you and grab a cup of tea to offer any advice or support we can, particularly for early career creatives and new graduates.
Internships
We recognise that careers in theatre are not always easily accessible and training opportunities are not always available. We want to support the next generation of creatives through our programme of paid internship opportunities. We will host between 2-6 interns per year in different departments including producing, arts administration, directing, design, stage management, production manager and facilitation. Each internship is specifically tailored to the individual to ensure that they get the most out of their time with us.
All our internship opportunities will be advertised in our vacancies section and on our socials. If you want to be added to a contact list for internship opportunities get in touch and we will drop you an email when applications for opportunities open.

This internship will help me greatly with my future career goals. Firstly, because it has provided me with the confidence and tools to go on to support and deliver workshops, as well as some knowledge of theory which I can take into future work and develop upon throughout my career
